Baby Development - 12 months

Your Baby’s 12th Month:

Gesturing Increases
This month, your baby’s desires will become increasingly apparent as he learns to point to what he wants. He might also pound his fists on his highchair and kick his feet when he doesn’t like something. These are all part of the normal development of his communication skills.

From Babbling to Jabbering
The ability to make new sounds takes center stage now. Don’t be surprised if your baby is making noises that sound surprisingly like words. A few babies even begin to utter a few words other than mama and dada.

Walking
Many babies begin to walk unassisted at 12 months. This is an exciting time that will surely make you reflect on the huge advances that your baby has had over the last year. Don’t worry if your baby is still crawling or cruising. The normal range for babies to start walking is between the 8th and 16th month.
