Baby Development - 2 months

Your Baby’s 2nd Month:

Increased Movement
Physical development takes center stage during the second month of your baby’s life. Her neck muscles are becoming increasingly strong, and now she can actually hold her head up at a 45-degree angle while on her stomach. As well, arm and leg movements are becoming smoother and less twitchy. Try holding your baby upright with her feet on the floor. You may be surprised that she can bear weight on her legs. All of this physical strengthening is preparing her for the amazing skills that she will be acquiring over the next several months.

New Sounds
The cooing and laughing that might have already begun in the first month will increase significantly. Other sounds to listen for are 'oohs', 'ahhs', and gurgling. And, rejoice in that toothless smile. You’ll be seeing a lot of it this month.

Longer Sleep Cycles
Unfortunately, your two month old is probably not yet sleeping through the night. But, she is probably sleeping for longer durations, especially during the evening and early morning hours. Most babies this age still need up to 16 to 18 hours of sleep each day.
